Ugly Rattan, your time has come

So here's the basic story. I needed a new patio set. We just purchased our 1st house(Yippee) and I wanted a nice patio set to sit and gaze at our beautiful landscaped yard. I found this set on craigslist for $40 but since the challenge was for $20 I will only show the chair not the love seat.
I have to start with how BAD that chair smelled. When I say bad I mean left out in the rain for a week mildew stink.
So I made some fabric refresher (I make my own, no Febreze here)  ripped the UGLY covers off and sprayed those cushion like they were on fire. 
While the cushions were being soaked I went to Walmart got my $1 a yard fabric and some chocolate colored spray paint.
3 days later, that's how long the stink stuck for, I made the slip covers and pillows.
I never made a slipcover with "mitered" edges before so that was a challenge in itself.
Enough rambling I give you before and after.

Thanks! That fabric rocks. I actually giggled when I found it in the $1 area. I only bought 5yds, I wish I got more.

Well it's definitely super ugly to SUPER awesome!  Nice work, I really dig the fabric with the new color of the chair frame.

How do you go about making your own fabreeze? I buy them by the handful and I hate it because it is such a waste to keep buying it. I get the refills but there is still the refill bottle to toss. or recyle.

great transformation .. the darker brown really makes it look more ..well... expensive or high end .. and of course the new fabric is way prettier  nice job .. and I 3rd the fabreeze questions ?? I have 3 dogs and cant live without fabreeze ..id love to make my own .....

Here's my homemade febreeze recipe:
3 tbs Baking soda
About 5 tbs white vinegar (enough to make the baking soda dissolve) use as little as possible
about 1 ltr of water
2-3 drops essential oils, your judgement here. I mixed 6 drops to neutralize the smell of the smelly cushions. Ripe raspberry oil to be exact.
I mix all my ingredients in an old febreeze bottle.
Mix the baking soda and vinegar first. Do not seal the container while mixing!!! This mixture releases of gas and will explode a sealed container.
Once the baking soda is dissolved add the water and the essential oil.
I also use this recipe for cleaner as well. I can't stand the smell and the harsh chemicals of commercial cleaners so I make most of my own.
I have 2 dogs 2 cats 2 kids. I use this on a regular basis.
