My midwife had an interesting idea - for me to make a custom fitting baby stocking to put a brand new baby in.  So I came up with a snap adjustable fit side snapping baby stocking.

9 yards of red fleece
3 1/2 yards of white fleece
21 yards of pretty trim
100 snap sets

and here is the outcome:

Here are pics:

10 Size 'small' baby stocking (up to a 9 1/2 pound baby):

10- size 'large' baby stocking (9 1/2 pound up to 12 pound baby)

3 Newborn baby fleece hats:

So, what do you all think?  Smiley  I just delivered them.  She hasn't seen them yet - she wasn't home when I dropped them all off.

I love them.  My daughter came home on Dec 24th, 1992 and she was in a xtra large stocking.  We still hang it every year for her.  Great idea.

Those are super!  What a cute and snuggly Christmas project!

I am not sure I understand how the baby sits in the stocking, though...  Are their little butts in the heel, and toes in the toe?  And the snaps go up their backs?  I for sure want to see a picture of this.  I love babies!  Thanks for sharing your project!

The way these were made, is the toe is on the left side (when looking at it), baby is burrito wrapped in a receiving blanket and is put in the stocking  'big' area - it's designed for the snaps to go around the baby's body - including the arms.  So nothing is actually in the heel or toe.  Baby's shoulders and head are out of stocking.  (the stocking are around 18-19" long)

I don't have any pics to share of actual babies in it, and may not be able to share when I DO get some (I asked the midwife for a couple for me to have and see actual fitting, etc) d/t not getting releases from parents to put on the 'net.  you understand.  Smiley

However, whenever my next kidlet arrives, I plan on doing a photo shoot (even though it'll be early summer, lol) so I WILL have pics of a baby in a stocking.  I'm considering making more to put on my website.  Just haven't decided.  That and I'm tired.  That was a lot of sewing and cutting and snapping over the last few days!

Those are darling
I was born Dec. 23rd and the hospital sent me home in a stocking, there's actually a picture of me in the stocking hanging from the stair banister with my brother standing next to the stocking.  He thought I was his Christmas present.  That was the stocking that was hung for me every year growing up.

I can give you all an update - the midwife LOVED them!!!  So much so that she asked for 6 more baby hats - she said they were 'darling' on the babies - her exact words.  *grin*

So I know what I'll be working on once the kids go to sleep for nap - they're tearing up the bedroom right now 'gearing down' for naptime. . .
