My boyfriend and I made these for his brother's xmas present. I'm really happy with how they came out. He scored and snapped the regular record into equal pieces and I hot-glued the cork onto the back and melted the 45.

Clever twist on the melted record. I'm jealous that I didn't think of it first!  Wink

I actually saw the coasters on somebody's etsy first, so it's not original. I did think making a holder for it though, and the 45 was the perfect size.

Wow!  I'm so going to make this as a Christmas present!  Thanks so much for posting, it's very awesome.  Very clever holder... I have a bunch of 45s that will now be put to good use.

these are really cool!  i love how the holder came out!  what did you use to get it so square?  i've never melted a record before - does it stick to whatever you use to shape it?

I actually just stuck one of the coasters in it after I melted it, then pulled up the sides of the 45 enough to mark the edges of the the coaster, pulled out the coaster then shaped the 45 all the way. If you mess up, no problem, just re-melt it. I did have trouble melting the 45's though, after I did the first one, two others shrunk up and wouldn't bend where I wanted them to. I'm not sure if that's cause they're older, or maybe I had the oven too hot or had them in there too long.

I made a square record bowl once.I had a small square metal pan.I put it on a cookie sheet, upside down, and put the record on top of the pan.I may have shaped it slightly while it was still warm.Turned out well.I like your coasters and coaster holder-neat idea!
