My niece is ga-ga over anything having to do with a "princess" so I made her this skirt for Christmas. I found this great jeweled tuille (although it about killed my sewing machine when my needle hit one of the jewels) and put several layers of pink underneath -- scalloping the bottom edge. I added the ribbons and wound up with the big flower when I went to throw away the excess tuille and realized it looked like a flower when it was all bunched up. She was thriIled and I would have posted a pic with her in it but she doesn't ever sit still --- enjoy!

The back:

Some detail -- the flower and a close-up of the waistband.

I want to make a Tutu, but Im confused as to how to do the elastic.

LIGHTBULB!!

Couldnt you just make on layer a bit longer [top layer] and then fold it over the elastic. OMG, Would that work!?

Yes, or you can add extra fabric to the overall length when you cut out the fabric to compensate for the foldover on the elastic. You will want to fold over the tulle and stitch to form a "tunnel"  or hollow tube for the elastic to go into. Then sew up the sides of your skirt, leaving an opening for the elastic to be threaded in through the tube. Cut the elastic to the length you need and affix a safety pin to the end of it. Then thread the elastic (starting with the safety pin so you can find it) through the "tunnel". Stitch the elastic, then the fabric and voila -- you have an elastic waistband.

hi
i have made a bunch of these for my daughter, and i have found that she won't wear them if i make the waistband out of tulle. i started making them with satin waistbands- just a satin casing with the tulle stitched to the inside.. i'm not sure if that makes sense, but now she wears them all the time, and i have sold a bunch of them...
