I started these last year. Made one, then added it to my "to complete other pair later" pile. A few weeks ago we re-arranged our computer area and I'm not sitting near a window and my fingers would be freezing after a few minutes. I decided it was time to finish these up.

The pattern is a combo of a few mitten patterns. I fell in love with the Endpaper Mitts but when I printed it out it seemed so long and daunting that I used a simplified chart that looked similar that I found online. I winged the first one and wrote down a few notes along the way. I'm a bit surprised I deciphered my notes well enough to complete the second one with out problems.

I really like them a lot and have been wearing them around the house. It does take some getting use to, especially while typing!

Thanks for looking!

EDIT 12/5/07 added pattern below-------------

This is the first pattern I've shared with others. That said, I hope it makes sense and doesn't include any errors. Feel free to post or message me and I'll do my best to help. Thanks and enjoy!

I made a pdf version for downloading as well: clicky

Finished Measurements
Length: 10 inches
Width: 3.5 inches

Materials
1 ball Red Heart Sport (or other sport weight yarn) main color (MC)
1 ball Caron Simply Soft (or other worsted weight yarn) contrasting color (CC)
Size 6 US needles
2 place markers (PM)

Gauge
22 sts 24 rows = 4 inches

Pattern Notes
Mitts are knit on two needles and seamed at the outer edge (pinky side). To make seaming easier you can add 1 salvage stitch to each side in CC.

Chart

Left Mitt
With MC, CO 41
8 rows of 1x3 rib. Start first row with p1, k3, end with p1
Knit 1 row MC
Purl 1 row CC
Knit 1 row CC
Start chart, work 34 rows of chart. (or desired length)

Thumb
Work increases in CC, with alternating colors on the sts between markers. Continue chart pattern for sts outside of the markers.
Knit 15, PM, inc 1, k1, inc 1, PM, knit to end.
Purl to first marker, sl marker, inc 1, p to marker, inc 1, sl marker, purl to end.
Knit 1 row (follow chart pattern for sts outside of markers, alternate colors for sts inside of markers.)
Repeat last two rows until there are 13 sts between markers.
Place thumb stitches on waste yarn. Knit to thumb sts, place on holder, M1, knit to end. (The M1 is needed to continue the chart.)

Work 7 rows of chart.
Knit 1 row CC
Purl 1 row CC
Knit 1 row MC
4 rows of 1x3 rib. Start first row with p1, k3, end with p1.
Double crochet BO (or desired BO technique)

Finish Thumb
Place sts from waste yarn to needle.
Knit 1 row MC
Rib 1x1 4 rows.
Double crochet BO (or desired BO technique)

Finishing
Seam using mattress stitch. Be sure to line up the pattern.

Right Mitt
Work as for left, when starting thumb, Knit 25 instead of 15.

These are gorgeous! I love fingerless gloves/arm warmers, they're so useful. Yours are particularly lovely and warm-looking--I really like the diamond-pattern on them. So cute.  Smiley You did a great job.

Those look great!  I have a hard enough time getting two supposedly symmetrical things like gloves to come out the same much less with a year in between.  I would definitely wear super cute mitts like those.  Make sure you keep your notes for the pattern for future use.

Ohh It never occurred to me that they make little hearts!

And Tiegh, I'm terrible at making two of the same. Most of the time I end up making 3-4 booties and am lucky if two match. I think the year off really helped. hehe.

OH, I used this pattern (pretty much) to make a pair. Except they are black and green striped because your pattern scared me a bit, lol. But they are great, really comfy and warm. Thanks for the pattern!
