i made this messenger bag with a jordy-style bottom to carry my school stuff. the lining is pink with tiny polka dots and i hot-glued some buttons on the outside. velcro flap closure and one small pocket inside.

That looks great! Is that canvas you used for the outside? And did you do anything extra to reinforce the strap? I want to make myself a bag for school, but I'm worried about the strap being too flimsy.

the outer fabric is suiting fabric, i believe, because it is fairly sturdy. the strap is just doubled over and topstiched, and that made it fairly sturdy!

OOoh niice. I like the button detail idea - just gives it a little something extra. Smiley

So.. Its basically the jordy bag with a flap only larger and with a variation on how big the corner notches are so that it doesnt taper so much at the top??? Just makin sure cause that seems simpler than the gusset version. Wink

Wow, I too love the buttons, the little heart one just makes it. Did you use interfacing at all?

no interfacing; the fabric is thick and durable enough that i don't need it.

the flap is just two pieces of the outer fabric the same dimensions as the bag (you can choose how big or small you want to make your bag), stitched together with two pieces of velcro on the inside piece. i guess you could use a piece of lining on the inside, but i used two outer fabric pieces to make sure it was sturdy.

i should really make a tutorial  Roll Eyes

I made so many of these over Christmas break and now I love them because they are big enough to put all of my art supplies in for classes.  Thank you very much!

I am going to be taking a class called "systems of working" which basically involves using mixed media to express conceptual ideas.  I am also going to be taking a color focused painting class for the next half of the semester.  I think "systems" has some sound art thrown into it so Im exited.  I had been taking a really crazy drawing class before spring break began where my professor had us make a ton of tiny drawings on notecards with whiteout and gel pens as well as tiny collages made from black and white xeroxes and make exact copies of them on 3'x5'paper- they are bigger than I am! I am SO GLAD it is spring break!
