Are you looking for stores that sell handmade items or local craft stores to buy supplies?

There are some artsy stores that sell handmade items on North Davidson St. at 36th (where the gallery crawl takes place)

I am also thinking down 10th street there is an area with some antique and retro stores and some stores in that area may carry some handmade items, I can't remember for sure though and I can't remember an intersection to help direct you (sorry!)

If you are looking for local craft stores there is Charlotte Yarn off of Selwyn.   There is also Artist & Craftsman Supply on Elizabeth Ave (I know it is a franchise technically but the people are awesome there and extremely helpful.  it completely feels like a small local place)

I know that may not have been exteremly helpful and I know I am missing tons of places.  I will post more when they come to me...haha

If you're looking for fabric stores, there are few and far between.  But you're close to Gastonia so you're really close to the best one in the area.  It's Mary Jo's in the Gaston Mall.  It's a dingy looking place but it's pretty big.  I live in Myers Park in Charlotte so it's about a 30 minute drive for me.  I usually go once a month to stock up.  There is another place in Pineville (south of Charlotte) called Sewing Arts Studio.  They specialize in Amy Butler fabrics but there selection is really small.  I'd hit Mary Jo's first.  Then there's Hancock's which stinks but I suppose it's okay for basics.  There sales are pretty good.

@little*devil,
I know EXACTLY where Gaston mall is.
I was just there today too, darn. D:

@mollytwin1,
Thanks, you did help! Smiley
I'm pretty new to sewing, so I don't know where anything is..
And I'm stuck with using old shirts from goodwill and buying fabrics at walmart.

Hey Smiley The Mary Jo's isn't at the newer more popular mall. (Eastridge?) It's at the older one. Right off of 321. And I can't think of what that mall is called. Sorry I am not more help. LOL

It's in The Gaston Mall - You'll be able to find it.  You can see it from 85 - Just take exit 21 off of 85.  Here's the address -
401 Cox Road
Gastonia, NC 28054

Have fun!

the hobbly lobby is good, they don't have squat for fabric but theres a lot of other craft supplies. I live in Gastonia and would go totally crazy if there was only Micheals. Mary Jo's is really good for their fabric selection, but i personally only go there for notions  because i think the fabric is over-priced. another place in Gastonia is Charlie Rectors Economy Crafts on Webb St. they wind their own thread in the back room and you can find almost any thread that you could possibly  need. they also have a lot of craft things, i get my keychain parts and barretts there. I wasn't to sure about the place the first time i went in the new location, its a little dark and dusty, but taking some time to really look around is really worth it. Smiley
