I recently got inspired by a site that Sindy shared with me. www.zentangle.com  I thought, okay, surely I can do this.  I started out with random dots like one of the posters stated but then I found myself needing a "purpose to it all" like always.  I just can't do random. Wahhhhh!

Anyway, here's my attempt.  I call it WAR

Believe it or not; it's kinda' deep for my shallow mind, lol.

Ooo, I like WAR, very very deep indeed. I've looked at that Zentangle site before and I'm not sure I "get it" but may try it with my own purpose too.

I think you'd be wonderful at it babs.

I'll paraphrase the instructions I got.

You put random dots in your workspace then play connect the dots; sometimes straight lines, sometimes curved lines. Choose a doodle and fill in each area.

Now look at mine again.  Can I follow instructions, lol.

Boy, I guess so!

I'm not so sure I can follow those types of instructions. Don't ask me why but it just sounds so...difficult.

Babs, that stuns me.  Just look at your Avatar background for ONE instance.  You're a closet zentangler!!

You sound like me, Tee.  I've tried random, and my very linear, organized brain just kicks into panic mode to fix the disarray.  Cheesy

That's EXACTLY it, Dee.  Well said!!

I also stink at collage because I have to have all items related. My brain alarm bellows anytime I try to put like a key in the middle of a snow scene.  Others do it and I love it.

I'm with you all - I can't do random or mismatch no matter how hard I try!

Great ! I love that "war" ! It's so deep ! And thanks for the site, it inspires me a lot. I have been doodling for such a long time without thinking it could be "something" (I still don't dare to write, say or think, art... LOL). My next atcs will probably "zentanglish" !   Wink

Tee -- thanks for the Zentangle link.  I missed it at first, but Colorfuldayz mentioned it over in the December gallery.  It looks like fun.

i'm intrigued by the concept==and i love your war example!==but i'm finding the weblink a little frustrating.  do they really expect me to buy a dvd to find out what the "process" is, or am i just missing the part where they state the "specified series of steps"?

I think they do expect you to buy the DVD, or the kit.  And I respect that -- they are artists with an idea trying to make something of it.  Having said that though, I'm not buying it.

Out of respect for the artists, I won't post any links here, but if you look around the zentangle site, and then google "zentangle", you can find enough discussion and images of it to put together a sense of the process.

oh, i'm down with them trying to make a buck, i just found their oblique references to this process a little...oblique, i guess!  i wasn't sure if i was just missing something.

You didn't miss anything ... it wasn't there. I, too, got frustrated with their site, but read some other references to it that others have done, studied their gallery a little bit, and read some stuff on it on another swap site (there is a Inspired by Zentangle swap going on that I got in on). I am not sure what their steps are, but basically you just come up with some random shapes and lines, and then fill in the spaces in between with repeating patterns. I put two of mine up in the December gallery.
