I Work For Cats

Sometimes when I am sad, I get busy. Today I wanted to bake.  A kitty named Zemon who has been a love in my life for over eighteen years died yesterday.  This yummy is made with love and with him in my heart.

I grew a large garden this summer. I planted only one type of squash on my own, all the rest came up as mystery squashes from last year's rotting fruits. They all looked like pumpkins and there were over twenty of them. yet, today when I baked one for homemade pumpkin pie, it turned out to be a spaghetti squash inside! I chose not to use that, but went with a butternut that Acadian Driftwood gave me from her farm (she was Zemon's Mommy for the past seven years.)

So, with that, I made the traditional goopy mix. But added a twist. I crumbled (not too severely) animal crackers on the bottom of a pan, then poured the mixture over it.

Of course, the kitty cracker had the place of honor, and spoke up about his place in the world....

During the last ten minutes of the 40-minute bake, I covered it with foil, as several crackers rose to the top where they coulda been burned.

The thing is delicious, hot from the oven!!  Have to be careful not to eat too much at once and make myself ill.

thanks for reading.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your kitty. They are family members and I know how hard it is.

You picked a very fun and delicious way to honor him. I bet this tastes so good. I love the idea of an animal cracker crust!
