Tug on anything at all and you'll find it connected to everything else in the universe. -John Muir
Isn't that a cool quote that also describes perfectly how a knitted item is all connected with just one, long strand of wool? I saw that quote by John Muir painted on the wall of the San Jose Children's Discovery Museum not long after I had just completed my
Muir
shawl. Crazy, huh?
But now on to what you really want, the details and pictures. I used an unraveled J. Crew sweater I found in a thrift store, 100% wool. Size 7 needles. I'd say it took about a month, give or take, probably give. It's pretty soft and warm.
There is more sentimental ramblings about how much I love this shawl on my blog, but really not much more pertantent info.

Thanks for looking!

That is so beautiful. Your knitting is remarkably even. How did you decide what size needle to use? I can't figure out what weight to use.

Lovely. It looks sort of heavy though, is it?

Thanks everyone!
crocodisle, no, it doesn't really feel heavy. Actually, I'm always afraid I'm going to tear or rip it because it seems pretty delicate. Maybe it's just the way the pictures turned out?
greyshadeofblack, the blocking probably helped make it look more even than my knitting is. I'm not sure how I decided what size needle to try. I think I just had a good circular needle of that size and tried one repeat and it came out looking nice and close to gauge, so I went for it.
I didn't change a single thing of the pattern, same number of repeats and all. I really like the pattern. I had to have the pattern next to me the whole time, I could hardly memorize any of it, but it made enough sense I could go quick enough with only a glance here or there. It stayed interesting the whole time. I like doing the picots up the side as you go along and not have to do an entire boarder when you are all done. Although, I might have forgotten a picot or two here or there, but it's not too obvious.

Ooh, this is great! I love how it looks with thicker yarn (it isn't lace weight, right? I'm not just losing my mind?) - makes me want to knit one for myself.

Your shawl is lovely. I had just decided on Muir as the pattern I wanted for come Cherry Tree Hill Cascade Lace and I was so excited to see a completed project posted here.

Hmmm...
You say you didn't change a thing in the pattern? I tried it and had begun thinking there was something wrong with it because I couldn't make my leaves look like leaves. I guess I'll have to try again now.
This actually makes me really happy because I really, really love the pattern.

This is so lovely! Like others, I prefer it in the heavier yarn you've used, it looks warmer and I like the way it drapes. I completely overlooked this when I first saw this edition of Knitty, think I'm going to have to go back and have another look....
