My kindergartener just left with her valentines. Attached were our heart shaped colorful crayons that we melted. I found nice clear cellophane self stick bags to put them in. I was thinking you could package them for different holidays. 3 shapes but each shape one solid color. red, white and blue - 4th of July. Pastel colored eggs for Easter... yellow, pink, green... Also wouldn't these be great for children's Holiday workshop/bazaar. We used a toaster oven to do this that I was going to get rid of! keeping it now. Grin

I have a silly question.. can one use the same muffin tins that one bakes with or will the act of melting crayons in it make it totally unusable for edible stuff... certainly not... I am sure it could be used for food after washing it, aye???

anyone have thoughts on this - I am far too lazy to call my mother. She used to make these all the time and I know if I call her I will be on the phone for hours....

I made new crayons by melting then in muffin tins and then putting them in the freezer and they popped right out.

if you put different colors in and dont mix them you'll gee the marbled effect.

=D

We just used the regular muffin tins that we still use for muffins.  Just clean them out after you are done.  The crayons are non-toxic, so it isn't like you are going to die or anything.  It's just that crayons taste kinda gross. Cheesy

When I was a kid I used to get in trouble for melting them in my hot glue gun.  I figure it probably wasn't all that safe, since I got into trouble, but I could make some cool designs before getting caught! Grin

A friend and I did this in hig school art class. It worked out awesome, and you really can make some great designs.

if you have kids then you can find none-plastic molds then heat those and put them in the molds for action-figure crayons!!!!

When I was little my mom melted the little crayon nubs in muffin tins into crazy multicolored crayons of awesomeness.  You can do all colors of the rainbow in one crayon or all the same color (only blues, only greens, reds and pinks, etc.)  Once they are cooled from the oven just pop the pan in the freezer for a few minutes.  They shrink enough to pop out easily.  I think the pans may have been greased with cooking spray.  You just have to wash the crayons before use so you don't make a greasy mess.

Maybe I should make some.  I do have a shoebox full of old Crayolas.

I was gonna suggest this too!  We call them "scribble cookies" in our house Cheesy

If you were going to try the glue gun thing, I would recommend dedicating a gun to it.  I have seen the mini guns at dollar stores.
