you should definitely try knitting from the book, a lot of the things look advanced, but aren't too bad.

for the bubble pullover, you only need to know how to knit, purl, ssk ,k2tog and pick up stitches. i was surprised how easy the pentagons were. the hardest part for me was sewing in the sleeves. seaming has always been my weak point.
