I just got  Knit One Felt Too for Christmas and my Mom wants to make the Touch-of-Fur scarf.  Can she use any fun fur on this, or does she have to find one with the same content as called for in the pattern?  This is our first try at felting.

Thanks.

Terry

The idea is that that you knit the fur yarn together with a strand of the other yarn so that the two shrink together to stripe properly.  In other words, you might need to do a few sample swatches first to make sure that your substitute shrinks ok with the felting yarn, but at least if you are knitting two strands together you only have to worry about the gauge of the felting yarn.  Basically, if it looks ok when you've felted the swatch of the two yarns knitted together, then use it, but do aim for one that is the same weight.  It can be hard with furry yarns, but I go by the needle they recommend you knit them up on.

Good luck - I hope you find a good match Smiley  I'm just making the cloche from some Magpie in that book (although it seemed to faffy to do the fair isle version so I've just got a thick band of blue against purple).  I really want to make the big lunch box bag too, but it looks too expensive to make up right now Sad

Cheers!
