My three year old has been asking me to crochet her a "Micky Mouse Thing".  Not being sure what that meant, I figured I could tackle a hat with mouse ears.  I had some black Red Heart lying around that I inherited, so I gave it a shot.  That is the story of how this was born:

Edit:  I decided to take my daughter's face off the internet, for her safety.  Thank you for understanding.

Nice hat! I really like that the ears seem to stay up. Sometimes things like that want to flop over, and all you can do is glare at them. (And cute kid, too!)

Adorable child.  Very cute project. Wish I had someone under 5 to knit one for.  I too am wondering how the ears stay up.

Nice.  I totally want a Minnie one for myself now.

Your girl's such a cutie!  My nephew's that age, too - it seems like the cryptic language (ie "Mickey Mouse thing") is pretty common with their crowd.  Though, I have to say that I prefer toddler slang to anything people in my own age group come up with =P

I don't know why it worked but it did.  THe ears are single crochet in the round.  I will try and write a pattern (first time for me), maybe it will make sense.  The ears are single crochet in the round.

Great job.  My GS LOVES Mickey Mouse.  I take care of him during the week and he chants MM's name every morning when his Mom drops him off.  He loves Donald and Goofy too but as far as he is concerned it's ALL MM to him.  I'll make this hat today but I think I'll add a few rounds of red for the hat band for "pretend" pants and two white buttons. If the ears aren't stiff enough I'll tack two circles together and maybe I'll just crochet them right into the hat (front loops on one round and back loops on the next.   I love coming up with different character hats for him but I just never thought of MM....dah Grandma!
