Please don't mind the obvious mirror picture. The hubby wasn't around to help with taking the pictures. Normally I don't look so spastic... Anyways with all of the crafting I'm doing for holiday presents, I thought I needed a quick little something for me.

This hat is sooo easy to do. I'll see if I can wing a tutorial (Beware i've never written a tutorial before!

*This tutorial is winged with an H hook*

chain 41
double crochet all the way across and chain one
do not turn around, instead continue across the back of the chain (now working in the round)
continue double crocheting down about 7 rows
On the 8th row, double crochet 4 then work the popcorn stitch (see the popcorn stitch here: http://www.nexstitch.com/v_popcorn_stitch.html) then double crochet two and then another popcorn stitch. do this across the front until there are four left on the front and then double crochet the rest of the way across the front and double crochet all across the back
Do that for 4 rows
Then double crochet all the way around the last row. and hide your string.

Next try on the hat. You'll see the ears there already. If you want to secure the ear spot find the bottom of the ears and take a piece of matching yarn and just secure the front and back together and hide the ends. Thats not really needed though because when you put it on the ears are usually perfect.

Very cute!

Did you use a pattern?  My friend asked for a kitty hat for Christmas and all the patterns I have come across don't look as cute as yours.

I started crocheting a kitty hat last night, and brought it with me to crochet while we ran our errands today. We had Chinese Food for lunch, and I got this fortune:

In case you cant read it (Sorry for the blurry cell pic), it says:

Try a new hat for a change in looks. Be creative!

(And it turned out big enough to fit over my puny dreads)

Bahaha -- Meow =^.^=

PS. Thanks for the pattern!

Sorry.  I'm lousy at following crochet patterns.  I am very confused here starting with "do not turn around" and ending in "round."  Please help!  Thanks.

For Aikibookworm: You join it into a circle by either just a slip stitch into the first chain you made, or maybe in this pattern you just do the double crochet into the first chain... But either way it will join it up and you just go round and round, and you don't have to turn or chain and join, just keep a stitch marker in the first stitch every round and then you will know where you are in the round Smiley

For joonsang: Looking at the pattern you just gotta keep going round until you have about 7 rounds Smiley What I find useful is to have a pad next to me and write down the number of rounds I have to do, and then cross them off when I've done that round so I'm not getting confused Smiley

Lastly, my questions xD...
What weight of yarn are you using? Is it worsted or something else?
Is a size H hook 5mm?

Well, I can't answer about the yarn the creator used, but I just got out my H hook, and it does say 5mm.  Hope this helps!

AHHHHHH....I love the way this hat looks but I don't understand the pattern at all.  I feel dejected Sad

chain 41
double crochet all the way across and chain one
do not turn around, instead continue across the back of the chain (now working in the round)
continue double crocheting down about 7 rows

Okay so I get crocheting in spiral...but this means that you are working a hat from the brim up yes? Or is this top down and there is no hole in the round you are actually making a ~rectangle?

On the 8th row, double crochet 4 then work the popcorn stitch (see the popcorn stitch here: http://www.nexstitch.com/v_popcorn_stitch.html) then double crochet two and then another popcorn stitch. do this across the front until there are four left on the front and then double crochet the rest of the way across the front and double crochet all across the back
Do that for 4 rows

Okay first the popcorn stitch how many dbl crochets are in the popcorn stitch is it five like the link or some other number?
Second what is the front? do you mean approximately 20 stitches because it is 41 around?

Then double crochet all the way around the last row. and hide your string.

Have the popcorns been causing a decrease?  The last row is the one after the fourth popcorn?

Next try on the hat. You'll see the ears there already. If you want to secure the ear spot find the bottom of the ears and take a piece of matching yarn and just secure the front and back together and hide the ends. Thats not really needed though because when you put it on the ears are usually perfect.

Are the ears from the popcorn stitch?  How can this be when there is only two double crochet between popcorn stitches? It looks like there is a lot more room between the ears than that?
In the assuming that the popcorn stitch has 5  dbc's in it would the front look like this?
d d d d p p p p p d d p p p p p d d d d d

Sorry for all the questions but I really like the look of the hat...I know someone else made the hat from this pattern so I must be reading it wrong please let me know what silly thing I have done! Thanks!

I've been looking for crochet instructions for a cute, simple kitty ear hat for some time now.  I'll have to try this one ASAP! What weight yarn did you use? With an H hook I'm guessing at least worsted weight?
