hiya,

i used this tutorial for my cosmetic bag: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=176509.0

it's a present for my colleague who knitted a scarf for me when i was home sick with torn ligaments (i'm not at home anymore but still hobbling about...). so i thought i had to sew a little something for her in return.

this is it:

it's strongly inspired by a bag i did for a friend's birthday (and hey, i still did have a lot of fabric and ribbon left Wink ). you'll notice the likeness Smiley and believe me, i'm really good at doing bows now  Grin

what do you think?

i bought the fabric at ikea Smiley they have very nice decorative fabrics for reasonable prices! perfect for sewing bags. have to go hunting there again soon  Grin
i had a look at the website of ikea us - they have the same fabric there too. it's called "patricia": http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00124581

It's nice, it's like some bag, where it comes with a small cosmetic bag inside the bigger bag.

I love this - and have a ton of that fabric. Do you have a pattern (or could you point me in the right direction) for the larger bag? It is so perfect!

Lovely! i love the black and white print. The bow is a really classy touch. I echo bley's and spacelady2's request   Smiley! And definitely a thank you for the directions on the bow. I had seen something like that (in a magazine) as a neckline for a top and was wondering how it was done!  Cheesy PS If you don't mind my asking, what's the insides like?

i used this tutorial for the large bag. that's also where i got the directions for the bow from  Roll Eyes http://www.ottobredesign.com/fi/kaavat/pdf/purse_EN_5-07.pdf

PS If you don't mind my asking, what's the insides like?
the inside is black fabric. i thought that worked best for the classy look...
the big bag has pockets on the inside too -they are the same white/black fabric as the outside...

Fantastic.  SO classy.  Question:  Do you hand or machine stitch the bow on??  I don't see any stitches on the front of the bow..  which is good.  Thanks for that ribbon tute!  I'm so gonna use that someday.

i machine stich step 1, 2 and 4. step 3 and 6 are handstiched so that you don't see it on the front of the bow Smiley

wow thanks for the links to the patterns! I just made a matching purse and cosmetic bag set for my mom. I was daring enough to try the bow, but I think I'll try it soon.  : Cheesy
