So, I just registered for Craftster last night, even though I've been lurking for quite awhile, and as I was trying to decide which project to comment on first, I thought: No contest.  I need to find the postage stamp quilt and tell her how awesome I think her project is.

It's amazing!  Like most other people have commented, I'm most impressed by the scale.  2,800 squares!  Hard to imagine.  I loved your organizational pics too, and your strategy of having several stages in progress at the same time seems really effective.  Also, I want to mention how much I love your fussy cutting.  I think I remember seeing a bowling pin, a bumblebee, a license plate... so fun!

I just started teaching myself to quilt about a year ago, and I have one fully completed quilt and several WIPs to my name.  This is one of those projects that is definitely inspiring and makes me want to go sew!

Joyfuljenny, I'm so glad you registered.  And thanks so much for your sweet comments!  I love fussy cutting so much -- in addition to the ones you named, there is a book, at least 8 faces, tons of flowers, 2 teapots, a salt and pepper shaker -- and who knows how many others!

I've been working on paper crafts lately, and I haven't worked on this quilt in a while.  In fact, I haven't worked on it at all in 2008!!!  I really, really, really, need to get back to it.  I miss it.

I can't wait to see your projects! Smiley

Here's another process shot, just to let you all know that I'm still working on this.  I haven't yet finished any more blocks, but I've been cutting up fabric like a crazy person.

All this fabric is from swaps with (and gifts from) people on Craftster and other sites.  Craftsteritas that contributed to this pile include hardyswanton, originalyouth and lorky.

The squares on the cutting mat are destined to be part of this quilt.  Some people have generously given me larger pieces than I need, so I cut those into squares that I'll store in my "scrap management system" (which, if there's enough interest, I can post separately about) for use in future projects.  At the very top of the photo, you can see some longish pieces -- those are strings (varying lengths, less than 1.5 inches wide) that I'll use for some future string quilt project.

Wow I've just come across this project Katxena!  I've been meaning to make a quilt for ages but have always been daunted by the thought of making such a big project.  I think if I think of it as *units* and *blocks* instead it would be less daunting (maybe??).

It's great seeing all the work in progress, keep up the good work Smiley

That's one of the reasons I like scrap projects so much.  I'm intimidated by the idea of making one block, then repeating it 500 times.  I'm pretty sure I would get bored.  With a scrap project, I think you have a bit more flexibility to improvise and change course if you get stuck half way through it.
