I've seen a lot of fabric flower brooches on here, and was inspired to make some as gifts.

This one is for my mom:

And this more macabre spider one is for my sister:

OOOOHHH!  I like the spider center a lot!  Makes me want to brainstorm (or rather, challenge everyone else to brainstorm)... what else could you use as a center for the flower besides a button?

yeah, they are just fabric stitched together at the center.  i dissected a few fake flowers for their petals, which i used along with scrap fabric and tulle i had laying around from other projects.

i thought of some other things that would make good centers, eakircher:

marble magnets (minus magnet) with pictures of people or other things
rhinestones - either one large or a cluster of small
small round mirrors
pearl or glass beads
sea shells
coins or medallions

nessie! those are some great ideas for centers!  shells! mirrors!  neato!  rhinestones made me think of those big gaudy sequins you can get at craft stores, they might make a good center too! anchor it on with a bead.
or now just off the top of my head, how about those funny shaped small erasers?  you know, shaped like a bunny head or a ghost or some other random seasonal shape.
great ideas! keep 'em coming!
