OK, So here are my suggestions for this sew-along. I personally like the McCalls' one the best, but I thought that i would throw a few suggestions.

I'm gonna have to pick my own pattern ladies. I'm a plus size woman. I was thinking this:
http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5116.htm?tab=large_sizes&page=2
but lengthened into a dress.

Or maybe this:
http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5484.htm?tab=large_sizes&page=1

http://www.butterick.com/item/B4976.htm?tab=dresses&page=3
Anyhoo. Those are my ideas. I would like to think that I'll get to it this month, but probably not.

I would like to sew a long, but I have my own idea (no pattern, I have to draft it yet).  could we just make it a "themed" sew-a-long?  Meaning as long as it's black and a dress, then it counts?

Oh! I'm still interested in this. I'm thinking about a LBD for my prom dress.

Well then how about you and I start sewing!  I may have to use some very dark grey, almost black fabric that I have because I can't find anything black that I like.  I could just dye it too though.  You have alot of time until prom comes so if you need help just post here!  I want to have mine done by the end of November for a few parties we are going to.  I will post my progress.

I have my plan for the dress.  I found this http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://www.vintagesecret.com/image/home_page/pink_chiffon_dress_1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.vintagesecret.com/shop/evening_dresses/&h=600&w=291&sz=117&hl=en&start=1&sig2=di3zyCfY72XtyCpRzATz1Q&um=1&usg=__TxLHuziVgWzzpWoK3VVNLkLNEuc=&tbnid=9t2qkOklEN2ktM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=65&ei=aTYGSb6qGpnmMN6-8PgM&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpink%2Bcocktail%2Bdress%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4GGLJ_enCA233CA233 (if anyone knows how to make the word "this" link to that superlong thing please please please pm me & let me know how!)

I fell in love with the style of dress but not the colour, and the fact that it is sold!

So I bought some turquoise lining and black chiffon and trim for the hem.  I am going to do a fishing line hem to give it that body.  At first I was going to draft the pattern myself but I decided to settle for "close enough" and use New Look #6699 and make a couple of adjustments.  I haven't decided exactly which pieces will work best, but I have exactly one month until my christmas party.  http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=6699

Oh! Absolutely gorgeous! You're right. It would look better in a different color.

I'm actually impressed that you managed to find a pattern that fits so closely...

I decided to draft my own pattern (because I DO have so much extra time). So far, I've cut out all the pattern pieces and did a mock up of the bodice (I think that will be the hardest part to get right!).  I was...ok with it. But I still need to make some adjustments. I'll add pictures soon when I find my camera cord.

Best of luck! Keep me updated!

Is that a hint of sarcasm I detect?  A student with spare time?  LOL.

I can't believe you already have so much done on it!  I can barely find time to get my customers orders out.  (Craftster does not help this situation!)

I can't wait to see it!  Are you taking pics of your progress?

Can I participate? I'm intending on making one using this pattern:
http://www.voguepatterns.com/item/V8361.htm??tab=list/evening_bridal_includes_designer&page=all

I'm making the one with the diamond inlay on the back, with some slinky black fabric I picked up in a buy 1m, get 2m free sale. I know it's not little per-se, but I'm a long dress person. That and I already have a beloved LBD I got for $30!

Well, I am going to have to drop out...

My dress will be a "little brown dress" instead as I found some fabric that made me change my mind.

Can we just say "little dark dress" ?  LOL.  I am still hopeful I can get it done before the party this weekend, and I have a midterm tomorrow and a final next wednesday!

Anyways, I will still post the results if it ever happens!

Haha I'm cheating a little bit too... there are stripes of hot pink in my fabric! I usually hate that combination but this fabric changed my mind a bit. Updates?

It is 3 days until the party...no dress yet.  I think I will probably end up doing an infinity dress this time since they are quick and cute, I can do it the morning before the party and I will work slowly on my "real" dress and use it some other time.  I am in a compression class (over tomorrow) which crams a whole semester of a course into 7 days, so my nights and last weekend was all about studying.  I will be studying most of this weekend as well since the final is coming up!

Infinity dresses are the bomb! I once had to go to a party and whipped one up half an hour before I had to head out.

My dress is comprised of a cut-out pattern and a neat pile of folded fabric...I was hoping to make it for next weekend, too. Maybe not...I've been running on very little sleep lately, preparing for a preview for our school's play. That and I'm making my prom dress in my spare time Tongue

http://www.threadbanger.com/post/6195/thread-heads-at-sxsw-day-2-how-to-make-a-slack-dress

upon discovering a pair of XXXL black slacks i found in the mens section at salvation army for $2.50 (thank you half-price day, you've saved my shoestring-college budget once again), i began my DIY-LBD endeavor.

the woman in the tutorial video (courtesy of threadbanger) made hers out of 2 different pairs, using a pantleg of each color, i just used both of the black)

for some reason, mine didnt fit correctly with the 2 zippers i tried, so i bought eyelets & made a corset type thign in the back. (also bought a white scarf at salvo for like 50c, cut it in half lengthwise, then sewed end to end ot make a long ribbon to put through the eyelets)

it puckers where the ribbon is & the bust makes me super flat, since i neglected to sew the darts in. (still contemplating a halter, or converting it into a foux-high-wasted-skirt-dress-thing)

but yeah! & fyi, im not including pictures because my dress sucks. Smiley
