So- this is my first post and I sure hope I'm doing this right.  These took forever, but I'm so proud of myself.  I took the idea of the yin yang being in perfect harmony.  I decided that I would create my own pillows and pillow cases (these will fit in my "craft" room).

After I made the cases, I beaded koi fish (this took 14 hrs! and over 900 beads/sequins).  I had a killer time finding sequins... i had to go to three craft stores...

I used craft fuse paper to attach different strips of fabric cut into designs and then I embroidered on top of that.  I've never embroidered before, so i looked up some stitches and tried them out.  I used:
blanket stitch
chain stitch
stem stitch
split stitch
and reverse chain

I still want to finish the eye on the orange koi with a blue cloud and put finishing touches on the lotus flower in the blue koi.

So here were my ideas.  Japanese style cloud art on the blue koi fish.  In my art class, I'm talking with the students about complementary colors, so I chose blue and orange for the two pillows.  Also we have the dichotomy of sky and earth represented by the clouds and the lotus flowers.

I wanted to symbolize the combining of the two with a red ribbon "stitching" the two pillows together (it reminded my of my brother's hand binding ceremony to his girlfriend).  The merging of two parts to make a whole.

Thank you for looking!

I find I relate more to Max & Ruby as I get older.

Very lovely. I'd be more than happy to have those displayed on my sofa. Koi fish are a personal love of mine. Good job!
