I've always wanted to embroider a Luna Moth, so I worked it into this challenge.  I used the Luna Moth to represent Night (on a dark blue pillow case) and chose the Monarch Butterfly for Day (on a light blue pillow case).
I even tried out a new stitch (for me) called Turkey Work, where you make loops that can be trimmed to make a shaggy effect (used on the Luna's body).
Also, in keeping with the prize, I used all DMC thread, and even had DMC needles on hand!

The pic of the two cases together came out really blurry, but I tried to do a better job on the close ups.  I also don't have any action shots, so I took one of the patterns and notes on color choices.  The drawing and photo I used as patterns came from a search on the internet, since I can't draw.  I'll have to hunt down the urls for them, and post later (I have to find them again).  I picked the colors on my own.

this is amazing!  the moth and butterfly are gorgeous...

why don't you switch the order of the photos so the second one is on top?  people will be more tempted to click if they can see how amazing it is, rather than having the blurry photo be the thumbnail...

Gorgeous!

Did you actually hand do all that and, if so, how many hours did it take?

Wow, those are incredibly intricate, and your stitches are so unbelievably even!  You did an absolutely amazing job.  I never would have thought of the fuzzy stitches, but it's perfect.

Gorgeous!

Did you actually hand do all that and, if so, how many hours did it take?

Absolutely, hand done, every stitch. I had hand cramps every night to attest to it  Grin I haven't done any embroidery in a long time, so my hand wasn't used to using the tiny needles (plus I've developed arthritis).
How long is a question I've been trying to avoid thinking.  I got a late start on this challenge, since I needed to finish crocheting a baby blanket, plus I hadn't thought of what I would do for the Yin-Yang theme. Then I lost time because my mom needed help moving to her new apartment.  I think I had almost 3 weeks available, and many nights I didn't even get on the internet, and I stayed up very late.  Let's just say I'll be taking a break from embroidery!

Now I need to figure out what to do with them. I don't want to keep them just as pillow cases.  I'm thinking of either doing a single pillow in the Yin-Yang shape with the moth and butterfly as the 'dots', or maybe doing a blouse...

Thank you!  I'm glad I tried the stitch, it really turned out nicely.
Maybe I ought to do a fuzzy caterpillar next?
