So, my cat's name is Chewbacca. It's kind of a long story, but he comes from a family of Star Wars named cats - his mother is TK421, and his siblings are TaunTaun and Wampa (they're all white cats, you see). And Chewie is the kind of cat who will lay on anything soft that happens to be lying around - towels, laundry, homework I'm trying to grade - so I decided he needed a cat bed. Of course, not just any cat bed would do...

So I made the Millennium Falcon!

I made it out of gray fleece with all the detailing made out of a black t-shirt that I appliqud on with my sewing machine. It's stuffed with a crapton of Polyfil and has snaps on the underside so I can take it out/restuff it/wash it/whatever.

With the wookie himself. I made it pretty large - he's not full grown yet and I have secret hopes that he will someday become one of those giant tom cats.

I think he likes it!

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it.

Chewie's pretty pleased with it too!

I had to laugh though that with the first pic with Chewbacca, you said you made the bed with the hope that he'll grow into it, only to see him stretched all the way across and then some it in the next picture!  I wish I could stretch out the way they do.

Great cat bed!

Hah - my cats love all soft surfaces too, but they prefer non-bed things to bed-things. Because they have the aura of people and forbiddenness, I think.

This is awesome, though - I didn't realize how big it was until the cat showed up for size.

The feline who lives here with us is also Star Wars named...

"Jabba The Cat" seemed much more appropriate than the wussy "Socks" that my nieces wanted to label him with when he showed up at our back door begging for shelter at Thanksgiving 7 years ago. He was already about 17 pounds, and was born to have that intergalactic gangsta's attitude.

Funny thing about cats (I'd never spent much time with cats growing up): they seem to be so snobby and standoffish that when they decide to show affection, it makes me feel inexplicably GRATEFUL!! What a hoot!

My old cat wouldn't even look at anything that we thought of as a cat bed.  She would flat out ignore the couple beds that we bought her.  Her preferred place was the back of the couch or my mom's bed

eee I love it! I would so love to have a pattern of it!! Just for a Pillow to use myself! Before Tucker steals it!

I pretty much free handed the whole thing. I looked at a lot of pictures and cut out two big pieces of fleece roughly the shape of the Falcon. Using a DS icon as inspiration (http://www.dsicons.com/nintendo-ds/2006/09/millenium_falcon.php) I cut up a bunch of pieces of scrap t-shirts into simplified designs for the stuff on top and sewed those on. Then I assembled the whole thing, connecting the top and bottom with a loooooong strip to add depth.

I'm sure you could totally do it!!

It amazes me that you made something for your cat and it actually USES it.  Every time I make or buy something for my cats they completely ignore it.  I have cat beds, toys, crinkle bags, you name it, they won't even LOOK at the stuff, they'll choose to sleep in towels, my bed, play with my son's toys and hide in grocery bags instead.  Maybe my cats are just jerks...

Anyway, that is the coolest cat bed in the world and your kitty looks so happy with it!  Cheesy
