Every year the Monarch butterflies migrate south to Mexico. They end up arriving at about the same time as the Dia de los Muertos observation.
A legend says that the butterflies convey the souls of the dearly departed to/from the festivities.
That legend was my inspiration for this piece.

I didn't know about this monarch butterfly thing... beautiful story! I think in Japan butterflies also represent the souls of the departed. ^^
