***Decent-er photos, I guess.***

I went to the mall, the local fashionable places, and the vintage shop looking for a simple item: A mid-thigh length coat, preferably green, preferably wool.

Oh, and NOT four hundred dollars.

I guess I'm just too picky.

I said screw it, went to Jo-Anns the next day, found some corduroy (screw wool, I dont want to mess something up using wool) and some cute blue plaid flannel for lining.

I picked up a pattern but it was meh-ed right before entering the checkout. How hard could this be, I asked myself? I'm a pretty good seamstress. I dont usually use patterns. **Just to clarify, I didn't end up making anything like what the pattern looked like.**

Turns out it really wasn't hard at all. I even sucked it up and made buttonholes. I lined it in the most ass-backwards way possible (but it looks good) and the collar was a happy accident. The darts turned out fantastic and the pleats are my favorite part. The corduroy is rumpled but then again, so am I. The buttons are vintage leather square buttons that I found in my grandma's button box.

Without further ado, here it be:

That is absolutely adorable, LOVE the off - center way it closes in front. I'm always in awe of those talented people who make things without a pattern, I can do fairly simple things, but not anything like you did. Good job!

I really want to have a go at coat making myself now, but I already have three winter coats and don't really need any more...

I am in love.  Really.  I absolutely love it, ESPECIALLY the back and the drama queen collar!  It rocks and so do you for winging it!
