Well thats not 100% true...I used to make purses when I was in highschool, for myself and friends but they were all hand sewn and basically just a plain tote bag, this was the first purse Ive sewn on a sewing machine.  I used a simplicity pattern, I dont have the number off hand.  It was pretty easy, sewing the handles was kind of confusing, following the pattern...so I just decided to wing it after I got the general jist of it!
This purse is for my sister, I gave it to her last night and she LOVES it, she kept asking what I was making b.c she loved the fabric...is it something she could wear (i generally sew clothing) I added a little pocket on the inside and I made a small matching bag to carry little crap that you can never find like chapstick, a mirror, etc.

heres the pocket on the inside
and this is the little bag to go inside the purse

Thanks for looking!!

Calvin : You can't just turn on creativity like a faucet. You have to be in the right mood.

I used this pattern about two years ago, and thinking back I had the same problem with the handles, but I winged it too. It didn't turn out as good as your's though. I think I ended up giving it away at a baby shower I was throwing and the mom to be was very happy with it (even though I wasn't too sure about it). Your's turned out really well though! Be a proud momma!
