Dreaminsanity- if you can sew a straight line, you can make a poppet.  Ghilie's directions are so easy to follow.  I was worried I wasn't going to be able to make one because I was so new to sewing, but look at me now!  And everyone here is willing to help if you have any problems.  Give it a try!

So true, the first thing I ever made with a sewing machine was a poppet.

Aguasnow

I was horrified at my first one too, and the support I received on this thread gave me the courage to post it and they made great suggestions to fix some things that could be redone. My sister loved the poppet and took her home. Believe me, you are not alone. I've just done my fourth, the rocker, Peter and while 2 and 3 were great, I backslid but that hasn't deterred me from continuing. I too am intrigued by that fabric.

Let us know when any questions come up. I don't know about everyone else, but the gestation period for a poppet can be anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of years.

Hello All!

I cannot wait for a pattern to get to join all of you.  This looks like so much fun!  Since most of my friends and family do not craft, I have been pretty alone in my crafting up until now, so I am excited to have found Craftster and what looks to be a friendly and supportive community, with gorgeous toys to boot!  In a couple weeks I am going to be done with grad school for awhile, and plan to craft up a storm (starting with my first poppet, of course).

So, any advice on Life, The Universe, and Anything for a n00b?

FizzyKitten- yay!  I'm glad you found us.  My only advice is to take your time.  And if you get stuck, we're here to help.

LOL, thanks.  I've yet to make an anime-inspired poppet.  I've been wanting to make "grown up" Shikamaru from Naruto, but I keep forgetting to buy green fabric.  A Chiyo chan poppet would be adorable!  *wheels turning in head*

Okay I was wondering if someone can do me a revised pattern of the body and do some kind of rough estimates of where the arms and legs should go?  I acidentally sewed my leg on upside down and my poppet's left shoulder is bigger than the right shoulder and her arm is about a half an inch lower than the left one... Im gonna have the same problem with the legs.... I was wondering if ghille or someone can revise the pattern with placement markers?? I would be soooo appreciative of that!!

I am taking a break from swaps for a while.  I am not accepting any personal swaps at this time until around Christmas time.  Sorry for the inconvenience.
