I'm glad that other poppeteers have the vision to be able to use those fancy fabrics. They turn out looking great, but, I just can't see it when I'm standing with it in my hands.
I bought 2 shirts and a skirt of doe suede to cut up today at the thrift store. A lovely cocoa brown, and two lighter flesh tones. They probably won't be poppets though. I got some new doll patterns I'm excited to try out. I know they won't be as popular as the poppets have been.

Even if they aren't as popular as poppets, the poppets are still doing what they should.  They make it easier for people to learn how to make dolls, and modify what they have to suit what they want.  Without makeing a poppet, I would never have ever attempted Spock!  Besides, we always love what you make! Wink

Speaking of Spock!  I am jazzed  Grin  he is getting featured on Geekcrafts website on the 21st! *happy dance*  I feel much more validated for my crafting.  Grin

Exactly so! And congratulations! Smiley Making poppets has given me the skills and gumption to try making a "nicer" doll for my mom for Christmas -- she collects porcelain dolls, but thought my poppets looked weird, probably because of the eyes. Or the fact that one was still bald.

I'm almost done with my first FIVE completed poppets! I finished the first big one a while ago but have been waiting for more hair, so I wefted it with this batch, and as I mentioned before, I'm doing four 80% sized ones. It seemed to take FOREVER to get to this point, but suddenly all I have to do is add limbs to two more bodies, sew on some hair (already wefted, did them all in one night), and sculpt fingers and toes, and I'm done! Then I can start the clothingfest.  Cheesy

I don't know how I'm going to be able to wait until DECEMBER to get some reactions on these! (from the recipients anyway -- I'll post them here as soon as they're done!)

Hobby Lobby was having a 30% off sale for most of their fabrics when I was there yesterday. Did not see if they had Alova in stock, but they had the Bull Drill I use for my girls ^.^.

I got two more yards for my Residents girls. They've made 4 arms, 4 legs, 2 bodies and one head with hair. We hope to joint at least one on Friday.

I like the sparkly brown fabric on that poppet.  I was at Joanne's on Friday and they had all kinds of new prints.  Lots of ideas floating around in my head now.

Craftewoman, I can't wait to see your next dolls.  I've had another doll pattern for a few months now, but I keep getting distracted by other poppets and other crafts.

Congratulations goldfishpollywog!

Hey guys...

I just started another poppet.... And I need some help with the hair.

I want to kind of maybe crochet (never done anything apart from the beginning chain thing, or continuing the chain after someone else turned around the corner (I know wrong terminoligy) anyway.

I need some help with the hair, I can't say anything about it here really. It's for a swap. Is there someone who has some experience in kinda short hair who could give me a hand? I will PM you if it's ok.

I'm hoping I won't have to do it the way im thinking....

Have you tried watching any crochet videos? Are you wanting to crochet the cap and then attach hair to it? I bet we can figure something out. Smiley

Short hair - Do you want curly? Stick out straight, wild? ghilie made some wigs from fur then attached. That could be straight and tame.

For crocheting a base for a wig I would use a net stitch. Make the base circle. Then chain one, single crochet, repeat don't bother with joining at the end of each round just keep going til you get the size you want which should be slightly smaller than the finished wig. Then loop the pieces on or tie some pieces on. The toughest part for you would be starting our circle. which is pretty easy unless you've never done it before. The instructions are a bit more complicated but it really is quite easy for a beginner to do.
