I present you with my very first poppet!  Grin

I played hookie today, and besides cleaning the house I sewed this little girl up.  She hasn't told me her name yet, but I know this much about her:
she's a shy tree spirit, and she usually hides in the gigantic old silver maple in our backyard, telling fairytales to the squirrels and finches .  she doesn't mind being naked, but would appreciate some eyes (I told her to be patient, they're in the mail and on their way). she loves nuts and dried fruit, bluegrass music, and she'll come out and play at night when we have campfires.

Here she was before stuffing:

And here she is:

Hello there!

Head closeup:

Once she's clothed and has eyes, I'll give her her own post in the toys forum.

Thanks so much ghilie for the pattern--it was really easy and fun to make.

ooh... Sparkly!  Cheesy

She has a great start.

Got a new mailer from JoAnn's today. Alova and similar fabs will be 30% off starting July 20. Of course the big question is what types will they have in stock. You won't be able to use your 40% off coupon on it but...
And a mountain of 40% off coupons for next week. I'll take one of each color... And one of those... and one of those...

I just came back from Joann's, at least ours has restocked the alova, but I found some teal on clearance for $2.50/yd!  It wasn't what I went in for, but neither was anything else in my cart!  Wink  Oh well, a sewing I will go....at least I better before Hubby gets back from work!

For some reason the Joann's where I live always has alova in stock. They carry a ton of colors too. Usually it's $6.99 a yard for the plan ones, and $12.99 for the fancy shmancy ones like Lotuspixie's fabulous tree spirit.

I'm glad that other poppeteers have the vision to be able to use those fancy fabrics. They turn out looking great, but, I just can't see it when I'm standing with it in my hands.
I bought 2 shirts and a skirt of doe suede to cut up today at the thrift store. A lovely cocoa brown, and two lighter flesh tones. They probably won't be poppets though. I got some new doll patterns I'm excited to try out. I know they won't be as popular as the poppets have been.

Even if they aren't as popular as poppets, the poppets are still doing what they should.  They make it easier for people to learn how to make dolls, and modify what they have to suit what they want.  Without makeing a poppet, I would never have ever attempted Spock!  Besides, we always love what you make! Wink

Speaking of Spock!  I am jazzed  Grin  he is getting featured on Geekcrafts website on the 21st! *happy dance*  I feel much more validated for my crafting.  Grin

Exactly so! And congratulations! Smiley Making poppets has given me the skills and gumption to try making a "nicer" doll for my mom for Christmas -- she collects porcelain dolls, but thought my poppets looked weird, probably because of the eyes. Or the fact that one was still bald.

I'm almost done with my first FIVE completed poppets! I finished the first big one a while ago but have been waiting for more hair, so I wefted it with this batch, and as I mentioned before, I'm doing four 80% sized ones. It seemed to take FOREVER to get to this point, but suddenly all I have to do is add limbs to two more bodies, sew on some hair (already wefted, did them all in one night), and sculpt fingers and toes, and I'm done! Then I can start the clothingfest.  Cheesy

I don't know how I'm going to be able to wait until DECEMBER to get some reactions on these! (from the recipients anyway -- I'll post them here as soon as they're done!)

Hobby Lobby was having a 30% off sale for most of their fabrics when I was there yesterday. Did not see if they had Alova in stock, but they had the Bull Drill I use for my girls ^.^.

I got two more yards for my Residents girls. They've made 4 arms, 4 legs, 2 bodies and one head with hair. We hope to joint at least one on Friday.
