Y'all are right about handmade gifts being on the  Sad endangered list, but in a way, Craftster is reviving that by letting us all share our knowledge & support. Cheesy  Last year, I decided that birthday gifts can be bought, but most of the Christmas gifts need to be made.  My nieces couldn't believe that I sewed the little purses, since no one else they know makes things. Huh Well except my dad but he makes knives, not anything a little girl would get.

Needless to say, Poppets and quilts are going to surround the Christmas Tree this year Grin along with whatever other crafts I learn from y'all!

I'm having issues with hair. Sad I taught myself how to crochet a little cap for them, and used a latch-hook to put strands of hair on it. That all worked great, but... now I have these funky knot-looking roots that show really badly at the top of the head, and I'm not sure how to get the bangs to lie flat. Do you think this problem would be solved by adding more hair at the top, or is there a secret to doing the "part" that I'm missing?
Not good at explaining but maybe you can figure it out by looking at my pics.

Yay.

I FINALLY got around to starting my first poppet.

It's so exciting seeing it come along and actually look like you're getting it done alot quicker than normal. I get bored with projects sometimes if i can't see them beginning to take form infront of me after too long

After all the tracing/cutting out. When I started sewing a had a whole poppet leg in maybe 20 mins.! That was also including remembering where i hid my ladder/hidden stitch tutorial..

My poppet is almost done. Just need to finish attatching her head and then sort out her hair.

She doesn't have a name yet... She's a bit slow with that kind of thing. I think she's waiting until the needles are out of her head.!

Hopefully I can post some great pics tomorrow.!

I went to a bunch of rummage sales today and got a total score. A sewing stool filled with loot. I paid $25, but the pinking shears alone are worth that. It is full of every color thread, rickrack, bias tape, and some great little scraps of fabric. Also buttons and notions galore. I can't wait to make some poppet clothes!!!

Awesome! Congrats on your score! I am nearly done with projects. I'm debating joining the Craft my Religion swap. If I do I'm hoping my partner would want a poppet. That could be a fun way to learn about someones religion. Smiley
If not I can make many other things. But even so my next thing to make for me will be a poppet. Smiley I know I've been saying that for weeks. But I'm determined. lol.

Oooo, I love the white stripe in her hair, and her dress is gorgeous!  Is the material satiny?

Thanks.! Smiley

Yeah the material is a stretch satin.

It's amazing, truly. If I could marry a fabric. That would be the one.

Sadly I don't have enough to make anything usable/wearable from it for myself, and I bought it as a remnant. They don't stock it any more. I was impressed at how good she turned out for my first poppet so I decided she needed a pretty dress. Smiley

I didn't feel like having all black hair, and thought the white would be a nice touch. Kinda wish I did something other than white cause now when I look at her I think cruella de'ville haha. The hair yarn has sparkley bits through it. Looks bad in the pic but great in real life Smiley

She is so cute! And far too fashionable to be Cruella DeVille!  The white streak in her hair is more Stacey London (What Not To Wear).

That dress is gorgeous!
