Some people have used felt and haven't had any problems with it.  I've used butter suede and faux suede.  I know lovesclutter has even used a pretty cotton blend for Patience.  Experiment!

Here's a link to butter suede.  Its pretty much the same as alova.  That's what I make poppets out of.  http://www.hancockfabrics.com/viewfdsearch.htm?profile=&query=butter+suede&numHits=24.  You can order online.

Here's a picture of a dress i made, using the easy peasy poppet dress pattern. Its my first ever piece of clothing. Modelled by my one and only poppet, Hannah, made by clonedbravo

I got a $50 Joann gift card for house sitting, and cannot find 'alova' online. If you had $50 and a 40% off one item coupon, what would you buy?

thatkid- such a cute dress!

I don't know...poppet wise I would get some Alova or some nice yarn for hair but with that 40% off coupon you could get something fairly expensive. What do you like to do? If you want to keep making inchies I would definitely invest in a rotary cutter(I think what I'm talking about is a rotary cutter).

I am thinking about that as well, but a good sewing mat or rotary cutter, the one I bought at walmart sucks. I don't have a proper table yet. I got an extra  couch taken out of the living room yesterday, and now room for that curside table top, kidney shaped about 3 feet wide and 6 feel long, and i have tons of banisters to use as legs, dumpster find also. So craft is spreading from DR to LR. Love it.

lovesclutter- I don't know if you realize but rotary cutter blades do wear out with use.
If you want a good mat for it though I've heard very good things about self healing mats.
I bought my rotary cutter in april and replaced the blade just last month. So that gives you a good idea of how long they can last. Mine was even still sharp except for one dull spot.

Anyways I didn't even find alova on jo-anns website by searching for it. Last time I saw it was fall so it probably won't be back till around halloween.

I would go for a butter suede or perhaps supplies you have trouble getting. Like joints or thread or that sort of thing. that or if the coupon and gift card don't expire soon I'd save them till the suede did come back in stock and use them then.

.

I hardly ever used the thing, it never cut right. I don't know if it expires. They gave me the receipt too with the store number. I'll call them in the am.
