Last week I finished up my petal shawl. I realized I was going to run out of yarn before finished the last repeat of the lace pattern, so I left it off and modified the fishtail border as needed. I also added two extra repeats of the lace pattern when casting on: so it's shorter and wider/fuller than the original pattern. It's more like a capelet than a shawl. I like it a lot, though I need to add a couple ties to keep it from slipping off my shoulders. I used a fingering weight alpaca that I had dyed with Jacquard acid dyes.

That is gorgeous!  I just learned to knit, so I'm curious, is this pretty difficult?  Where can I get the pattern?  I really love it!

Man I was just about to start making one of these myself (course I'm a little cheap so I'm subbing in Caron simply soft, I also want it a bit bigger so that should work). So how long did it take to finish? I'm just wondering if I'm about to start another "bag filler"

I am actually in the process of spinning the yarn for one of these shawls for myself. The border turned out great. If you hadn't said anything I never would have known.

looks great! i love your colors. Im just finishing up the last points on my own petal shawl, and i've never blocked anything that wasn't rectangular before.... did you block it, and if so, did you find it to be difficult?

Thanks everyone! The pattern is actually quite easy. You can find it here: http://www.elann.com/ShowFreePattern.asp?Id=107024
I started knitting it several months ago, but I didn't do much knitting over the summer. So...less time-consuming than a sweater but more than a scarf? The lace pattern is 90% stockinette so it goes by more quickly than most lace shawls anyway. By the end the rows get LONG though... 15-20 minutes just to knit a single row. Blocking it was somewhat difficult, I probably spent 20 minutes pinning and adjusting and stretching it. Blocking is a must with this pattern though. It looked ten times better afterwards.

I'll have to say your finished one really makes sense of the name for me.
When I saw it on the website I couldn't really get why it was called the petal shawl.
Now I can't wait tilll I have time to get this started.
Oh and I forgot to say.. your shawl looks beautiful

And I didn't get why they called it the petal shawl until I saw your picture. Haha, I'm slow.
