Hi y'all!

My mom recently moved to Montana and got her first horse in 40 years.  I'd like to knit and felt a saddle blanket for her and her horse for christmas.  I've already got a yarn in mind, Brown Sheep Co.'s Burly Spun, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with this or has ever seen a pattern for a saddle blanket.  Any info is greatly appreciated!

I made a saddle blanket for my brother last Christmas.  I used Paton's Classic Wool and loosely based it on the pattern in Greetings from Knit Cafe.  I think I used the same needle size they recommended and I cast on close to the number of stitches they recommended but then I used a chevron pattern from the web.  I didn't want to buy the entire book for just one pattern so I just went in and looked at it a couple times.

I felted the blanket and it was perfect.  It came out a little larger than the measurements of the one in the book (both pre and post-felted) but it's the perfect size for my brother's horse.

Good luck with your mom's blanket!

Thanks so much... I knew I had seen a saddle blanket pattern somewhere, I just forgot which book it was.  Thanks again! Hey, do you have any pictures of the blanket you made?  I'd love to see it if you do.
