That's the Bernina BSR foot - it's incredible.  After I tried it in person, I bought a machine that can use the BSR foot.  Three current Bernina models can use the foot - I have the 440. 

The cool thing about this foot is that as you move your fabric, the foot automatically senses how quickly you're moving it, and adjusts how quickly it stitches.  It makes free motion quilting SOOOOO much easier!  I don't think I do a good job of explaining it, so check out the Bernina website for more info.

I have an old Bernina that I just got last week from my mother in law, I'm not sure if its good for quilting or not.

I have several Vikings and they can all do free motion quilting quite well.  I even quilted a king sized quilt on one of them.   I did this one about 12 years ago.
