I wanted to bring the color of summer poppies into the cold winter diningroom. fresh cut? hoo boy, $100 a dozen. Silk? still too pricey, and too fake looking. Solution? Make some hairy red longstems for pennies. left over Fun fur, ordinary willow sticks, florist's tape and wire.

could you tell me what fun fur is ? I thought fun fur is the stuff you make stuffed animals out of... these are really dramatic, I love unusual flowers like these....I have made tons of realistic crepe paper poppies fo weddings but these are super, kinda asian looking. btw love the green walls. my man only likes white, sniff.

fun fur is a specialty yarn you can get at most craft stores.

http://www.lionbrand.com/yarns/funFur.htm

i made a loop of wire, then wrapped the yarn round and round till i had the bulk i wanted for each flower head.
