my first stenciling project - come with us to the world of the mighty boosh
«

October 23, 2007 12:42:21 AM »
hi folks,
i proudly present my first stenciling project. being one of the biggest mighty boosh fans ever (for all of you who don't know it, it's an english comedy series) i had to do one of my hero vince noir (aka noel fielding) of course.
(the shirt looks a bit spotted on the foto, but actually it isn't.)
i think it turned out really nice for the first try. although i'm not pleased with my colour application: it's too patchy.
what do you use to apply the colour to the fabric?!
haaaaa, i'm so looking forward to wearing this shirt

Ah excellent! The Mighty Boosh rocks!
I've only just started stenciling myself. It looks really good, it must have taken forever to cut out all the parts of that zookeepers jacket!

thanks. mighty boosh definately rocks.
i'm looking forward to the new series!
yeah, it took quite some time to cut out the stencil. my fingers hurt! but it was worth it as i used overhead transparency so i can use the stencil again, and again, and again, and again
i love black tshirts and i looked for a suitable photo for ages to make the (white) stencil from...

I've not tried OH transparency yet, just freezer paper. I would imagine it's a lot harder to cut out, but much better that you can re-use it!
You've reminded me that there was some talk of another Mighty Boosh swap to go along with the new series...

i had no idea how to get freezer paper here in germany. so i had to look for alternatives. i did the stencil with transparancy (0.3 mm) and put it on the shirt with spray mount. it worked really great! sticky but can be easily removed without stains!
the 0.3 mm thick transparancy was quite hard to cut, especially for the teeny bits and i'll use thinner one the next time... but i think it's really worth the work as i can reuse it over and over again.
what do you mean with

I might look out for some transparancies to try, it's so sad not being able to reuse the freezer paper ones. If you'd like to try some freezer paper ones though I can send you some of my roll, just PM me.
I just meant that seeing your mention of the new series reminded me that there was talk here...

of starting up another swap for the new series.

good morning, you cheeky otters
thanks! i think the stencil turned out quite nice but if you saw a closeup of the shirt you'd see that i messed up the colour application. was in the crafts shop yesterday and bought one of those little foam rubber painter roll things. i hope you know what i mean? that should be better for smooth surfaces than my stubby brushes...
@mellymel: nice image

What did you use? freezer paper? It looks like it would have been fiddly to cut out.

i used overhead transparency (0.3 mm) and spray mount. worked fine and is reusable!
it was a bit stiff though and i might try a thinner one next time.
and: yes, it was really fiddly. you can so easily mess it up while cutting! but i managed without making any major mistakes...

That is made of win!
I'm soooo jealous! My stencil cutting is terrible - I really want to stencil the boy a tshirt for his birthday (two days away! haha!) but I didn't know what design to do. I might have a crack at doing the Boosh logo though... We're both huge fans
That's a fab stencil though, my first stencil (and so far, only!) stencil just fell apart haha!
I really need to stop using !'s.

i'd love to see the old gregg shirt! i tried to make one myself but failed with the stencil because his face is so dark and has little contrast... might give it another try though - i love old gregg
