I did this for art class last year - it was pretty much a do-what-you-like painting thing. It took me a long time to finish, because I wanted to get the texture just right.
It is acrylic on canvas, about 20" x 15.5". The red "mouth" part is electrical tape.

Inspiration: http://www.flickr.com/photos/heatherica/60969674/. The original idea was to use words to form a mouth, which would say "Let me speak for myself", but that was too tiny to do right, so I used tape in the end to convey censorship, especially of women.

It's amazing. I really love the tape, it's perfect. If you ever decide to make one larger the words as the mouth is a great idea as well.
