I found this really old pattern for a hostess apron which I would like to make. The pattern calls for figured nylon. I have no idea what that is. Does anyone know if there is another name for it?  Google came up with three pages for it, most just chance combinations of the words.

Since nylon is not as popluar as it once was, I will not be surprised if I can't find the exact thin, but would anyone know what to substitute for it. Most of my fabric is 100% cotton.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a picture of the apron that you could show us?  I am not sure what "figured nylon" is either but I would think that you could substitute cotton.

There's a sketch, not a picture. The nylon is overlayed with organza or something similar. It is shaped like petals around the waist. I'll see if I can get the pic.
