Wheeeee!  I was going to do the stripes, but since this was my first time switching colors, I chickened out.  Then I got bored and bold and went a little silly on the earflaps... et voila, I present you with Carrot Top!  He waves hello.

I didn't bother with the buttons since the yarn stays up itself (the hat is just slightly tighter than what I was going for, not too bad, but I will use the I-hook instead of the H next time), but I'm thinking I might add some leaves or something at the very top for even more ridiculous effect.

I like it best flaps down, anyways:

I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.  The orange yarn is Red Heart, but the white and the green were thrift store finds of unknown content... I think they're still worsted weight, tho.  I fear if I make it in solid grey it will look like a metal helmet...
What do you think??

Great job, I hadn't really thought the hat looked all that great in the book.  Now I want to make it.  I love the color combo!

I agree with mintyheart: you need to make it in red or hot pink for a watermelon effect.   Smiley   It looks great, though!

As an aside, I think we're all used to oddly colored pictures.  Even though it's clearly orange, I presumed the color was a bit off in the pic and it was hot pink until I read further (saw it in recent with pics, so I didn't notice the "carrot" part at first).  Smiley

No, you aren't!  In the thumbnail, I thought the same thing!  I love it though, and I think the leaves or tassle would be great!

A watermelon hat?!  What a great idea!!  I hope someone makes one... or else I might have to... it would look so good on someone with brown/black hair- like SEEDS in between the two rows of shells!   Cheesy

... or just use black for occasional stitches for seeds!

btw, I forgot to mention that I think the colors go very well with your hair/skin tone.  nice choice!
