In the tradition of easy gifts for knitters, like the knitter's brooch...

This is a piece of scrap yarn that I wound into a small skein, wrapped with a tiny label, and attached to a key ring. It makes a cute knitting bag charm.

Instructions on how to wrap a skein are here. When you're done, slip the key ring into the top loops, and attach the optional charm-clasp hardware.

I love tiny things. Tiny travel sizes, tiny dollhouse furniture, and now this freaking adorable tiny skein. That is too cute!!

This is very cute! I definitely want to make one to give to my SIL for Christmas. Plus, I want to dye some yarn for her.

But...I looked at the instructions for wrapping a skein and I just don't get it (I get lost at step 3)! I need pictures! Does anyone know of a tutorial that has pics with it?

Thanks a bunch!

There are PDF instructions on how to tie a skein, here.  The pictures at the bottom of the PDF page show the figure-8 tie.  However, this skein is so small you can just tie it any old way.  I tied mine in 2 places, stretched out the loop with my thumbs and twisted it, bringing my thumbs together to let the skein fold in half by itself when it looked tight enough (like making a twisted cord).  Pull one end through the other a little bit, and thread the key ring though both loops.  Hope that makes sense.

Thank you! That tutorial helps immensely! I never would have figured that out on my own Wink
