The folks at the knitting forum say it's crochet...but it looks too perfect to be crochet (look at the "V" shape near the ears in the 2nd photo).  Plus how'd they get the perfect "stockinette" stictch?

I know it's old now, but the people at the knitting forum were right--it is crochet.  It looks like sc or hdc worked in the back loops.

Great job! I was about to reply hdc in the back loop and then I saw your second set of photos--I'm working a knit calorimetry right now, and I've been thinking about a crocheted one the whole time!

I tried and it looked so bad I unravelled it!!!!!  I'm so inept when it comes to crochet I guess.  I just can't get the ">>>>>>>" to show up in the row beneath!

Hi, everyone---

I stopped by the Christmas fair in Manhattan and the company that makes these Pantas is there.  I took a VERY close look and it looks like it's mostly knit.  It's 3 columns (not sure of the appropriate knitting terminology since I'm a newbie) on the left and 3 on the right.  It starts off as 4-5 rows at one end, then branches out and the unites on the other end.  The middle is done the same way, but 2 columns on each side.  Once you have the two "leaf-like" forms knitted, it's crocheted together into one whole piece.  The second, smaller section (the middle part) is gathered in the middle using HDC crochet.



I don't know how I'd go about doing this since I know nothing about increasing or decreasing in knitting.

But it's definitely knit.

I'm still trying the crochet version since I know how to do that better.

If you completed one on your own, PLEASE post your pics.  I'm sure we'd all like to see them!

Thanks for the pattern!  I searched all over the internet, then was like "duh---search craftster!" and I came across your pattern.  It was wonderful!  I was a little confused about how to make the ends, so I wung it... I made a crochet ball button on one end, and a button hole at the other.  I also made two small scallops right where my ears are, so that they really cover the ear.

I'm thinking I'm going to do some embroidery on the front---maybe some lazy daisys and chains.  We'll see.  It just needs something.
