I want to make a ring similar to this one, but the gauge looks so small! What size hook do you think I should get? (I don't have anything nearly small enough.) And should I unwind yarn to make it skinnier? That looks almost like embroidery floss!

You're gonna want to start looking into crocheting lace and what have you. They make teeny tiny hooks and skinny skinny thread exactly for stuff like that!

You'd need crochet thread, probably at least 30 weight (crochet thread is sized by numbers... the smaller the number, the thicker it is). And at least a size 7 or 8 hook (with hooks, the smaller the number, the larger the size) to use with the finer threads. Like these...

I'd say a size 11 hook with either size 10 thread or embroidery floss, I've found size 11 is about as small as you can go with size 10 thread, plus it makes really small, tight stitches. Even though embroidery floss tends to split as you crochet it I'd probably use it due to the cheapness (you won't have to buy a big thing of thread just for one color) and the color selections available, I've seen some pretty awesome variegated ones.

Thanks so much! I ordered size 11/12 (hmm?) crochet hook, cause for some reason, they didn't have just regular 11 or 12 etc that weren't in big kits. And yeah, floss comes in so many colors! And it's so shiny! Yumm! Even if I go crazy and make a gazillion of these, it'll only cost 25c per color Tongue ~ can't wait to get my order now!

Fantastic idea - I can never get rings to fit my teeny fingers and I have some dinky crochet hooks lying around somewhere...
