ah! these ideas are all fantastic and not to mention some of them are hilarious! ( I LOVE the jack-in-a-box one!)

I was thinking of doing a high-school survival kit since her birthday is a week before school starts! She's going to be a freshman like me. I though maybe to include:

-gum (so no falling asleep in class)
-cool pens or pencils
-locker things for her locker?

ideas would def. be appreciated! Grin

- caffeine mints
- gift certificate for her favorite clothing store (cause who doesn't need new clothes?) or make some clothes of your own to put in there if you know her size.
- hair ties
- a doodling notebook
- a little mirror
- lip gloss
- tampons/pads (cause you never know)
- hilighters

For the high school kit, I work at Staples and we just got in these awesome combination locks where you choose a five-letter word as your combo.  The choices are a little limited since not every letter is available, but lots of possibilities.
Go to the Staples site and type Wordlock into the search box.
(I do not get any kickback for plugging these, I just happen to think they're neat! Honest!)

An assignment book is CRITICAL in high school, at least I think so.

How 'bout a tampon/pad keeper sewn out of whatever fabric she might like?

I was gonna do a high school in a box too, for my sister! I'm really lost on ideas though, I know I was gonna include the Breakfast Club DVD, some teen angsty stuff, like black nail polish (lmfao) and def. some gum and a tapon holder.... maybe a little iZone camera for those little dorky "Stand here so I can act like I'm taking YOUR picture but I'm actually taking my secret crushes picture" moments we all had in school...

i was thinking of "girlfriend in a box" since me and my bf live a very long distance apart and we can't be together, i figured i'd bring parts of myself to him. well, i haven't had many really personal ideas, but this is what i've gotten with help from my friend chelsey.
pictures
hearts
letters
IOU's
coupons (ex. 1 free win of an argument etc)
mix CD
small pillow sprayed w/ my perfume
silk boxers
photo of a supermodel (he wishes! lol)
little bottle of my perfume
hershy kisses
fuzzy peaches (candy)
cherry blasters (more candy, in case you're not familiar with them)
condoms
lube
lip gloss
scented candles
poems
my handcuffs
mittens (with a note inside about how, since i'm not there to hold his hand, he'll have to rely on these to keep his hands warm instead)
journal with reasons why i love him inside, and a few little poems possibly
and 2 hugging teddy bears.

any other ideas? Huh

I did that for my boyfriend's birthday... something I included was a little clay doll I made with my hair and eye color with an outfit that looks like something I wear a lot. I also put a little scrap of fabric in that's the same color as his favorite pair of my underwear (they're a pretty distinct color).

Wow I just read through all 32 pages of this thread, and now I'm inspired to make an "in a box" present.  I was thinking of making a "sleepover in a box" for my 11 y/o sister.  Someone suggested it earlier on in the thread and I thought it would be a good present for her. So, the stuff I'm thinking of putting in so far:
Nail polish, toe seperators, tube of face mask stuff, a CD or two, a few DVDs (anyone have any good ideas for which ones?), some microwave popcorn...
If any of you had some more ideas that would be fantastic.  Thanks so much in advance!  Cheesy

maybe put in some fun dress up stuff, a few pre-teen magazines.
as for dvds, sleepover, big fat liar, princess diaries, etc. just movies that are a bit older than kids but younger than teens.
