I think this bear is kind of hilarious.  I created the image and came up with a whole story and history to this eclectic fellow, which somehow explains his strange attire.  Cheesy  He's got a fedora, aviator sunglasses and a kicky neck scarf. He's rather fond of the 70s style of dress.

I think each type of fabric adds a different personality, and I tried to use ink types which would compliment the fabric. I screened the images using my new Print Gocco (which I adore) and made a little tag out of ribbon to make them look more real.  It was such a fun process!

this fabric reminded me of pants an older man or a golfer might wear

a bit gangster, maybe

classic!

and my fave photo, a group shot:

I'd love to hear what you think!

Thank you!

I have to say, I love the fish.  I drew different items for the bear to hold, including a book, a bag of groceries, and a bottle of pop, but the fish just looked the funniest.  Wink

Hilarious.  I think the fish is fitting.  A bear's gotta eat.

let's see.  well, this is an older bear, the kind of bear who has lived a long and fruitful life, retains a fond nostalgia for the old days (particularly those of the 70s) and won't stop yapping. But he's so kindly and inadvertently hilarious, maybe you don't mind so much.

I imagine his wife died, not too long ago, but she was 5 years his senior when they got together, and anyway she was ready to go.  She probably said to him "Bear, you take good care of the kids, and keep dancing". (Who knows what she meant, she was kind of out of it near the end). There were two kids: Charlie and Pine.  Pine had a child of her own by then, a girl named Veruca.

Bear writes letters to his children, his grandchild, and to basically anyone who will read them; he signs them "Fondly, Bear" because he's cute that way.  He tells a lot of meatball stories, and sometimes it seems that the story he's telling is actually two, smooshed together into an incoherent whole. You get the impression he might have gotten involved with the mafia at one point, and that he used to work in insurance before quitting out of sheer boredom.

I think this bear's existence is somewhere between that of a human and a typical bear -- he's been anthropomorphized, certainly, but then he's got that fish... Wink

Any suggestions for stories from Bear's wonderful life?

I like how the pinstripe one with white ink makes him look sort of embarrassed, I think because the end of his mouth doesnt show up as well. Man, I wish I had had the idea to do stuffies when I was in screenprinting class I got so bored of just doing flat fabric.

I hope he finds a new girl bear to take care of him. I know she could never replace his wife bear, but it sounds like he needs company.

Ahahaha, he does look a little embarrassed!  that's so funny.
When I drew this design, I just knew it more well-suited to a stuffie, rather than tshirt, bag, what have you, for sure.

And about the company -- so true.  He's holding up well, and he's happy to spend time with his friends, but truth be told, the nights get pretty lonely. Wink
