i just bought some mega kool tap shoes from a thrift store (they were only 2.50!!! yeah, be jealous) i love them so much, but they are so freakin' loud. and i don't tap so i don't really need the taps. So, how do i detappify my tap shoes? do i just unscrew it? will it mess up the shoes? or should i just take up dance? please help!

Gah I'm terrible at tap! hahah.

I believe you'd just unscrew them.  My friends for their dance recital last year had taps on their chucks. AMAAZZINGGG! haha. =)

You should take up tap, I loved it.

Just unscrew them.  You may want to wet the soles a bit, to help close up the holes left in the leather.
