So, I'd been meaning to try my hand at some handbag making, and amidst the Thanksgiving prepping, cooking and baking this past weekend, I was inspired!

I've had this perfect plaid remnant for years, from my grandmother's collection, but was ever so reluctant to use it...it's just too pretty! It's a poly-wool blend, with the nicest weave ever!

Throwing caution to the wind, I went to work, freehanding it based on tips I could remember from various bag/pouch tutorials

Here it is:

Obviously, it requires a bit of pressing still...but I've been carrying it around constantly since I made it so...no time!

I did some lovely corner seams...

Some fun, decorative stitching (as an experiment...)

and even covered some (decorative) buttons with the remnants of the green raw silk lining

Can't wait to make more!

I think next time I'll throw some interfacing in there, for greater stability and definition

Thanks for looking!

Very pretty plaid fabric and nice covered buttons, too.  I think it looks great for fall, especially the heavier fabrics.  Nice work!  Cheesy

I really like this.  The fabric is great and I love the matching buttons.  If this is your first project, you did an outstanding job.
