My boyfriend makes horror movies and the last one he did required a Ouija board. He was just going to use the Parker Bros board, but I said, Hey!  I craft - I'll just make one.  Besides, it was an opportunity to learn woodburning, which was something I was already interested in doing.

Here's the finished product with the planchette:

And another angle:

And a close up:

Thanks for looking!

thats awesome! what did you use to burn the wood??

My bf had started making this picture to put under the glass of our dining room table. he drew out this japanese scene with two samurai warriors about to fight..he was doing to burn the images into the wood.

he bought some woodburning tool (like a soldering iron), but it didnt heat up very well and it would take him an ETERNITY just to etch a line. he gave up on it..so all we have on the wood is a half of an etch of a samurai warrior and the rest is in pencil still lol

Your Ouija board is absolutely gorgeous. Nice work!
I'm curious though...have you ever actually tried it out? It has a lot of your energies in it, and it would probably work great.
What did you use for the planchette? (movable indicator point thingy) I can't really see it in the picture.

Thanks!
And again, GREAT WORK!

I haven't actually tried it out yet - I've been trying to convince people to do it with me because I know better than to do it alone, but no one will. Sad

I used a heart-shaped wooden piece for the planchette and carved out a circle in the middle.  It's pretty rough, but it gives it character, I think.

I used a standard woodburner (and then went out and bought a nicer one because I enjoyed it so much).  You can get them at any craft store for around $10-$15 for a low end one.

You may also be having trouble because of the wood - some wood is harder to burn than others.  Check how hot the woodburner gets on the package and choose one that gets hotter.  I think they're usually around 950 F.
