I want to learn to spin, and I noticed this spindle on trademe...do you think it would be a good one? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Crafts/Spinning/auction-121281034.htm
i know there are lots of different types of spindles, but I don't really know anything about that...

Yes.  Its an Ashford Student drop spindle.  It weighs about 2 oz and is perfect for learning.
