Since there have already been rumblings about next month's knitting project, I figured I'd better get this forum up and running.

If you really have strong feelings about knitting something other than a scarf, go ahead, but I thought it would be fun to see what kind of scarf everyone could come up with.

I think I'll be buying knitting needles after Christmas, as I've never knitted before.  Is it bad that I have had SnB 1 for a couple months and haven't done a thing with it??

Getting a little ahead of ourselves aren't we?

I already have the yarn (since last month!!) and everyday I look at it, thinking "When the hell is January gonna get here?!"

On another note: today is the one-year anniversary of me learning to knit!    Grin

Okay, I kind of started already... This yarn is so thin that I'm hoping to be done before Feb:)
My friend got me the yarn (Navy blue wool with flecks of color) from the Aran Islands in 2001, right when I was learning to knit, & I have been too afraid to use it.

Um, my great idea was to adapt a lace design I saw in a knitting book and use cotton/acrylic yarn + regular sewing thread with small glass beads on it. I hate knitting cotton, I've only done lace ones and I have no idea if the beads will work the way I think they will. So I thought this would be a real challenge and I was really looking forward to it  Wink.

Now it seems that because of the bregnancy my hands are so swollen that it's hard for me to do anything at times. I will have to reconsider taking part of this knitting craft-along Embarrassed. I still hope that somehow I'll manage to make this scarf.

I am hoping to use the scarf that I have been knitting for the last two months. It has yet to get done. Then I get to figure out how to end it;p Maybe by the deadline for this swap. it might be done;p

Hi all! I taught myself to knit about a week before xmas!! Grin I used the S&B book (it's a great book btw) I started out using a sportsweight white yarn and smallish needles (10's I think) and that was taking forever and I was having trouble keeping the tention in my yarn holding hand so i switched to slightly bigger needles and different yarn, I dont remember what it is called. So far i have about a 12 or so inches finished. Then I decided to switch to really big needles (19's) and some wool ease thick and quick in teal and have finished a little over half my scarf, but I'm almost out of yarn so i need to go get more. Well I thought i'd just post on my progress. I was kinda dreading this month cus before the other day I've never knit or even tried to knit. I'll post pics soon!  Wink

Alleycat- I'm in the same boat as you....I've never knit, either, and am kinda nervous about the whole thing.  I purchased size 10 knitting needles and some purple yarn yesterday.  There is a free knitting class in town Monday......I think I'll end up checking it out.  I'll keep the large knitting needles in mind.

Beginners beware!!!

WHATEVER you do, don't be fooled into thinking that those 'Learn to Knit' kits for 8 year olds are easy.  Ya know, the one where you can make a scarf, purse, or doll blanket.   lol.  I did, and it had the most awful drawn pictures.  I ended up using some flash animations online to learn and threw the directions away.

hahaha, I feel like such a dork now. Cheesy

I'm cheating a little bit because I've already started my scarf.  But this is just the push I need to actually finish. It's my first scarf and it's a little daunting to keep knitting something that just goes on forever and ever and ever

So I'm doing a garter stitch w/ Moda Dea Ricochet in Salsa. very pretty yarn, I lurve it.

I have about a foot of it done so far..
