01/11/10 - This is just an update for the many people who have bookmarked this post. You may have noticed that I have removed all the photos of the hats that I have made. I have reasons for doing this but I did leave up the tute. If anyone would like further information please send a pm, thank you.

TUTE!!

My first tute so please bear with me, and if something isn't clear enough please pm me

What you need: Stiff Craft Felt, Scissors, Needle and Thread, Gluegun with glue, Ruler, Your choice of decorations

Step 1
Cutting out you pieces. Cut A doughnut shape 3-3/4" wide with a 2-1/4" hole (save this cutout it will become the top of your hat) Cut a strip of felt 2-1/4" wide by 6" long (note strip in photo was later trimmed to this measurement)

Step 2
Begin sewing the hole cutout to the strip. This will form the top and sides of your hat. Sew all the way around the top.

Step 3
After sewing all the way around the top you should be left with a tail DO NOT CUT THE TAIL (you will need the extra to avoid a gap later). Now turn the upper part of you hat right side out.

Step 4
Place the upper part of your hat into the doughnut or brim of the hat and begin sewing the two together.DO NOT SEW THE TAIL TO THE BRIM.

Step 5
When you have finished sewing the two together you will have what looks like this

Now trim the tail to about 1/4"-1/2" long and glue down to cover you seam.

Step 6
Your basic hat is now complete all that is left is to decorate! Enjoy!

I Know Lots of info , and lots of pictures but i hope this helps you to make your own and have as much fun doing it as i do. Trust me it is addicting to make these little hats I think my DH will be so happy when i "grow out of this hobby". lol Thanks again and enjoy!!

I Just finished my first Mini Crown and I have had MANY PM asking if I would post a tute for crowns. I will try to get pictures up today of my finished crown and have a tute tonight (my camera batterys are charging and i have to go to work so no time right now) SO STAY TUNED!!

How did you make it and what did you make it from?  I would worship you forever for a tutorial.  But I'd mainly want to know what you made it from.  My friends trying to make crowns and hats like this, but she doesn't know what to get....?

I use stiff craft felt that you can buy in sheets 1) because its cheap 2) it comes in all the colors (and some patterns) 3) it's stiff so it stands up great with out lots of work.

I don't have a tute right now but i plan on making more soon so i will try to get one up soon.

Very cute hats, very cute daughter!
Great job on the tute, it's really clear. I am thinking I may make one of these for myself for Halloween. My other costume will be too bulky to wear for the parade and handing out candy, so this would be perfect with my black gothy dress. Thanks so much!

Thank you and i hope that you have fun making your own hat. They really do make the outfit. Like I said I made the last one for a friend and she is like "oh now I can build my halloween costume around this!" I can't wait to see what she comes up with and I will try to get an action shot to post.
