09/28/09
It has come to my attention that this tute has been reproduced and posted on various websites. That is great I am happy to share, but I do request that you DO NOT DIRECT LINK MY PHOTOGRAPHS OR CLAIM THEM AS YOUR OWN!!!!! If this continues to be a problem I will remove this tute.

BTW
http://aldeaocultadebahia.foroactivo.com/moda-f45/tutorial-mini-hats-t2033.htm
I am talking to you!!

EDIT: Here is a pic of all the hats posted in thread as of today: 04/05/09. Just use the "Show Images Only" button at the top of the thread and you can see all of the great photos!

(original post is as follows)
I wanted to post my Mini Top Hat that I made for my DD. Only the second that I have ever made what do you think?

sorry if its a little blurry or small I made all the pics into one to save on loading time. The ribbon around the hat says "Princess". Oh and like always i make something for my DD and she won't wear it, but i will try to get an action shot to post.

EDIT: TUTE!!

My first tute so please bear with me, and if something isn't clear enough please pm me

What you need: Stiff Craft Felt, Scissors, Needle and Thread, Gluegun with glue, Ruler, Your choice of decorations

Step 1
Cutting out you pieces. Cut A doughnut shape 3-3/4" wide with a 2-1/4" hole (save this cutout it will become the top of your hat) Cut a strip of felt 2-1/4" wide by 6" long (note strip in photo was later trimmed to this measurement)

Step 2
Begin sewing the hole cutout to the strip. This will form the top and sides of your hat. Sew all the way around the top.

Step 3
After sewing all the way around the top you should be left with a tail DO NOT CUT THE TAIL (you will need the extra to avoid a gap later). Now turn the upper part of you hat right side out.

Step 4
Place the upper part of your hat into the doughnut or brim of the hat and begin sewing the two together.DO NOT SEW THE TAIL TO THE BRIM.

Step 5
When you have finished sewing the two together you will have what looks like this

Now trim the tail to about 1/4"-1/2" long and glue down to cover you seam.

Step 6
Your basic hat is now complete all that is left is to decorate! Enjoy!

Here is the hat that was made for the tute after decorations were added

I Know Lots of info , and lots of pictures but i hope this helps you to make your own and have as much fun doing it as i do. Trust me it is addicting to make these little hats I think my DH will be so happy when i "grow out of this hobby". lol Thanks again and enjoy!!

EDIT**

I Just finished my first Mini Crown and I have had MANY PM asking if I would post a tute for crowns. I will try to get pictures up today of my finished crown and have a tute tonight (my camera batterys are charging and i have to go to work so no time right now) SO STAY TUNED!!

EDIT**
Mini Crown Tute!
Here is what you need: Craft felt, Hot gluegun with glue, needle and thread, and decorations

Step 1:
Craft Felt cut in the following shapes. 2 Strips 3/4" wide x 9-3/4" long, 1 strip 3/4" wide x 11" long, 1 strip 3/4" wide x  2" long and 1 circle 3" dia.

Step 2:
Take the longest strip and glue the ends together to form a circle being sure that cut circle will fit inside.

Step 3:
From the inside glue the circle and the circle strip together

Step 4: attache the two remaining strips to the inside of the base gluing ends on opposite sides of the base (forming an X at the top)

Step 5:
Take the needle and thread and going from the top X, pull the needle to and out of the bottom of the crown pull the thread tight. As you pull the sides of the crown will begin to bow giving the crown its shape. When you are satisfied with the shape knot the thread (while maintaining the tautness of the thread).

Step 6:
the finishing touch is to add the top "bump" of the crown. Take the small strip and form a tube and simply glue to the top of the crown.

That it now just decorate! scroll down and see two of my finished crowns later in this thread! Enjoy!

**it should be noted that working with craft felt on the mini crowns is NOT easy**

How did you make it and what did you make it from?  I would worship you forever for a tutorial.  But I'd mainly want to know what you made it from.  My friends trying to make crowns and hats like this, but she doesn't know what to get....? Cheesy

I use stiff craft felt that you can buy in sheets 1) because its cheap 2) it comes in all the colors (and some patterns) 3) it's stiff so it stands up great with out lots of work.

I don't have a tute right now but i plan on making more soon so i will try to get one up soon.

thanks for info link.

My newest, I like to think of it as my Frankinstine's bride hat. Has a net veil and a ribbon/tulle train. With some small plastic spiders thrown in for fun. Enjoy and Please comment  Wink
