I love it!  I'm painting my nursery now, and since the room is carpeted hadn't planned on spending the $ on a rug, but this might be doable!  All I can crochet is a chain, but this might be a good second step!

do you know about how wide your strips were in the end? or were they all diff. due to the ripping?

We had one in our house when I was little!

There is an interweave free pattern if I recall correctly too. Freestyle is always great tho Smiley

No, I was merely reading the Muggle magazines. I do love knitting patterns.

OK, I must be the only one who doesn't really understand how to cut a sheet into one continous piece.  I'm trying to picture it, maybe if I had it in front of me it would make more sense.

I was also wondering how wide your strips were.

Thanks!  I really really want to make one!

This turned out so nicely!  I'm notoriously bad with color combos, and am inspired by your choices Smiley

This rug is really cool. Smiley It's one of the things on my huge list of things to do, and for those who have questions about fabric prep, about.com has a little instruction thingy here: http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa092599.htm

I don't blame you... I am a terrible teacher. I tried to re-word it again in hopes to make more sense:

To make the yarn I starting tearing about a 1 1/2" strip but stopped ripping about 1-2 inches from the end & then repeated this process again on the other side but kept the first piece intact so I had one long continuous strip of fabric. I kept repeating this process until I had one long continuous strip.

hope that made better sense. let me know if you need more help.

Oh, and for the thicker fabric I made my strips a little less wide..about 1 inch to keep an even consistency throughout.
